A water softener is a small, self contained unit that is fitted to your water supply and filters the water as it passes through the softener. They are usually fitted in a kitchen cupboard underneath your sink.

Do I live in a hard water area?
Around 60% of the UK is classed as having hard or very hard water.
Water hardness is measured in mg of calcium carbonate per litre.
Soft water is classified as under 50mg per litre. Many areas of the country have a calcium carbonate per litre measurement of over 200mg.
Most of Berkshire and Buckinghamshire is rated as having very hard water, with levels of calcium carbonate reaching and sometimes exceeding 300mg per litre.
Fitting a water softener in your household will dramatically reduce this number and provide you with all the benefits that come with a soft water supply.
